The SAG awards were last night, and though there was much uproar surrounding the effect of the writer's strike on the event, I, of course, was only interested in the fashion. There were, of course, many hits and misses but I think I was most disappointed in Taraji P. Henson's showing on the red carpet.
Taraji missed a prime opportunity to get her grown and sexy on. Her gown was unflattering and tacky.
At 37, it's time for Taraji to retire the super short hem-lines and replace them with curve-hugging pencil dresses (which can be equally as sexy). The SAG awards don't necessitate over the top glamour like the Oscar's, so a knee-length cocktail dress would have been a perfect alternative to the standard floor-length gown (A la Eva Longoria at the Emmy's last year).
For Taraji, I'd suggest a dress with a more structured bodice, perhaps even with a built in corset, in order to create a slim hour glass silhouette. The chain metal bodice puts a virtual spotlight on her midsection making it look wider. The top of the gown is ill-fitting and does nothing for her voluptuous figure. Taraji was blessed with body and this look should help to enhance it.

Crisscross Dress, $149, bebe
One Shoulder Dress, $149, bebe
Strapless Dress, $139, bebe

Silver Sequin Cocktail Dress, $440, BCBG MAXAZRIA
Stitched Satin Dress, $380, David Meister
Red Strapless Evening Gown, $218, Faviana
Style Guidance:
- Look for vertical seams, they'll draw the eye upwards and lengthen your torso
- If you're going with basic black don't be afraid to rock bold jewelry, but wearing a huge ring, necklace, earring and bracelet is overkill. Remember: balance is the key.
- Satin can be tricky to wear. Beware of bumps, bulges and/or panty lines. To combat these, I suggest that you invest in a pair of Spanx. They're great for smoothing and shaping.
