Inaugural 2009 Style

Our new First Lady looked chic this past Tuesday wearing a Isabel Toledo sheath dress with a matching coat and a crystal and organza flowered gown by Jason Wu, who and both American Designers. I must admit I was a tad disappointed on both her choices for the Inauguration and the ball. I believe Michelle looked great , but it could have been better to see her in a jewel toned gown in either a nice purple, or emerald. Those colors would have been a fantastic against her skin, with an elegant up-do to match.

For the Inauguration our First Lady opted for a monochrome look in the color "lemongrass" , named by Ms. Toeldo herself. The dress and matching coat were made of a combination of fabrics—lace over wool, both of a slightly shiny, pale green-gold hue. The designer incorporated a pashmina lining and hand quilted cotton into the construction of the dress for warmth, since Mrs. Obama would be wearing the ensemble outdoors during the swearing-in and inaugural parade. Mrs. Obama paired her ensemble with olive green J. Crew gloves and jade green patent-leather Jimmy Choo heels that were custom-ordered. And in my opinion those jade colored shoes saved her outfit from looking identical to something my grandmother wore to church EONS ago.

Daughters Sasha and Malia looked adorable in their custom made Crew Cuts by J. Crew Jackets.
