BET Honors 2009: Queen Latifah, Gabrielle Union

Angela Bassett hit the red carpet looking stunning with a brand new short 'do, floor legnth fur, and emerald silk. dress with a bejeweled necklace.

Lifestyle maven B. Smith went a similar route with a sapphire blue satin dress with a plunging bejweled neckline.

Gabrielle Union easily wins my pick for best dressed of the night. With this simple, one-shouldered gown. The silhouette is absolutely gorgeous on Ms. Union, and it's beautiful without trying too hard.

I love how Mary J. Blige has matured into a such a polished woman. She looked stunning in a brilliant red cap sleeve dress.

Monica's definitely not afraid to take a risk, and her choice of dress and accessories showed it.

I'm loving the cut of this dress, but this definitely isn't the best we've seen from Queen Latifah. The dress is a tad bit bland.

I have to give it up to Star Jones. She looks great. The sequined print isn't anything I've seen in a while on the red carpet.
Pictures from inside the show below the cut.

But for now, enjoy Gabrielle Union in all her angelic glory on stage at BET Honors Awards.
note: This was an amazing night for Black Style. Ten times better than the Golden Globes. Stay tuned for a full recap.

Liya Kebede and Jourdan Dunn in Vogue February 2009

Liya Kebede and Jourdan Dunn are arguably two of the most successful Black models to ever work in the fashion industry. Last year, Dunn was named Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards and has been fabulously gracing covers and shooting ad campaigns ever since.
Now she and and Liya Kebede are posing together for the February issue of Vogue. I love that this editorial isn't just about them being black models. So fabulous!

Look of the Week: Garcelle's Glam at the Golden Globes
Although Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon didn't make to to the red carpet of the Golden Globes. She outshined them all in this red rose, full-skirted, asymmetrical dress by Tracey Reese. The dress was accessorized with a pair of matching heels, a crystal clutch and bracelet along with chandelier earrings.
Garcelle is a mature, confident, sexy woman, and this was an all-around great look.
Check out the runner-up below the jump.
Garcelle and Danielle represent old Hollywood glamour and the new crop of emerging celebrities. Danielle sported an edgy ensemble to the premiere of Top Model: Obsessed.
The look is fab because it doesn't try too hard. I'd believe that she put this together herself.

BSC Mailbag: Am I Too Old To Wear Colored Jeans?
Hey Kim,
I'm a 24 year-old recent college grad, and I've just entered the work force. Even though corporate America is my home 40 hours a week, I still like to have fun. I was just wondering am I too old to wear colored skinny jeans? And if not, is it possible to make them look chic?
In utter fashion frustration,
Rayna
Hey Rayna,
First of all, congrats on graduating and finding a job in this economy. And 24 ain't old, girl! Of course you can wear colored skinny jeans and look chic! There are, however, a few style guidelines you should keep in mind in order to keep yourself from looking like an adolescent hipster.
1. Carmen Colorful Skinny Jean, $139.00 2. Stone Wash Color Skinny Jean, $19.80 3. Zip Ankle Skinny Color Jean, $15.50 4. Dollhouse Colored Skinny Jeans, $39.99
1. Pick the right color. Stay away from neons and other overly saturated colors. Instead, opt for a cool tone e.g. purple, blue, green etc. They're much more mature, and easy to take from day to night.
2. Never wear a single color from head to toe. No one wants to look like a crayon, so mix it up.
3. Add a neutral. Pair your jeans with a white tee, black leather jacket, or nude pumps, and allow your jeans to be the focus of the outfit.
4. Wear heels. In my opinion, the quickest way to up the glam factor is to "put a heel on it" so to speak. Throw on a pair of killer platform heels
Here's a sample outfit to give you some inspiration...

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Beyonce looks great whenever she isn't touched by a stylist. She looked gorgeous on while on vacation in St. Barth's over the holidays. One of my favorite outfits was this multi-colored dress with a beaded neckline.
Dawn Richard wore it to a Tyra show event, and looked great (from the neck down).
They're both wearing the Catherine Malandrino Multicolor Jeweled Neckline Dress ($525).
Now y'all get to decide who wore it better?

Jay-Z is on trend with black fames and buffalo paid scarf. Beyonce's outfit was very disappointing, I expected more from the "Diva." However, I do love her YSL Tribute sandals.
Lil Mama is such a pretty girl, when will she ever get it right? I wish I could be her stylist. I think this look is WAY to casual for this event, didn't the invite say "no timbs"?
Songstress Mary J. Blige played it safe wearing "matchy-matchy" tanned leather and a Gucci bag. The chicest thing she's got going for her are those leopard lucite earring and a fantastic haircut.
Former 3LW member Naturi Naughton who plays Lil' Kim wore a fabulous gold embroidered strapless dress and matching peep toes and chandelier earrings.
Unfortunately for Veronica Webb, Louboutins don't always save the day. I'm not feeling her look at all, from her wispy bangs to her latex leggings. It all looks too messy for the usually pulled together Webb.
Voletta Wallace, mother of the late Christopher Wallace looked classy in a long black dress and fur coat. She could have injected a bit of color, but this works for her. Diddy's mom should take some styling tips from Ms. Wallace.
